Once we finished shopping, we hopped in an Uber back to our hostel, where we all took a quick nap and later explored the town square. While shopping, we visited an authentic glass blowing shop, a cosmetic store called Pani Praha, and many other local shopping spots. We explored the area, enjoyed some fun snacks, including the Trdelnik (chimney cake), and took pictures of the sunset. Around this time, we met up with the rest of our group and ventured into the Orloj clock tower, taking the stairs all the way to the top of the tower where we saw an amazing view of the town square.
As the sun set, we began to walk to our final stop before flying back to the States: Vytopna Railway Restaurant. This restaurant was definitely one of a kind! All our food was served by a model train, and that same train came to pick up our dishes at the end of our meal! Before ending our night, we met with our advisor Henry's cousin, Mr. Truett Jones, and shared stories of our time exploring Prague and Brno.
As we walked back to our hostel, worn out from our week of travels, I was able to reflect upon our time spent between Prague and Brno. I reflected most upon the people we met and how our interactions impacted each of us, and I thought about what I had gained by traveling halfway across the globe. I gained a deeper respect towards those who are not native English speakers living in the United States. Being unable to communicate with those around us was frustrating at times and made me appreciate how patient some individuals were towards us. I also gained respect for those who decide to study abroad for months at a time. I can’t imagine how nerve-racking it must be to travel far away from home and be the only person from Louisiana or France or Australia. But, I can see why people choose to leave home to study abroad; I don’t think much can compare to studying with people who share the same passions as you or the bond you can form with those who are also far from home.
